Our Mission
The South Jersey Choral Directors' Association, Inc. (SJCDA) was founded in 1958.
The Association is an independently incorporated, non-profit organization, affiliated with the New Jersey Music Educators Association (NJMEA) and the Music Educators National Conference (MENC).
The Association strives to foster and promote choral singing in order to provide artisitc and aesthetic experiences for students, as well as the intelligent understanding of all types of choral music. SJCDA acitively supports the organization and development of choral groups of all types from all schools. The Association dissemeinates professional news and information about choral music and music education issues to students and teachers in the Southern region of New Jersey, known as Region III of NJMEA.
All school vocal/choral music directors in the eight county southern region are welcome to participate in SJCDA activities where applicable. Together with the South Jersey Band & Orchestra Directors Association, SJCDA serves several hundred students each year in the pursuit of musical excellence.
What We Offer
SJCDA hosts two choral festivals a year for the students of South Jersey. The first is the All South Jersey Junior and Senior High Chorus Festival. This festival is open to singers in grades 7 through 12. Students are sponsored for this event by their choir teachers; those teachers serve as both the audition panels and chaperones for rehearsals and concerts. This event begins with in-person auditions at a local high school, using specific audition materials found in a packet that goes live every September. If selected, students attend five rehearsals held at local high schools and colleges, culminating in a weekend of concerts at the end of January.
The second event is an Elementary Choral Festival open to singers in grades 4 through 6. This is a one day event in early March, with a performance that afternoon. Singers are selected by their sponsoring music teacher and learn the music through tracks, optional virtual rehearsals, and their music teachers prior to coming. On the festival day, students work with their conductor to fine tune the music, make friends, and have a fun and musically fulfilling festival!
If you are a student and would like more information, please reach out to your teacher. If you are a teacher and would like more information, please email one of the board members found under the Music Teacher tab.
